Meeting Schedule

We will meet as normal tomorrow (the 11th) and next week (the 18th). Tomorrow’s meeting will close out the formal teaching part of chess club, and then I want to move into a more student-driven model.

On the evening of Thursday the 25th you and your parents are invited to the cafeteria at 7pm to discuss this change.

Right now, I pretty much run things. We’ve done 30 min of teaching at the beginning, then played games for the rest of the time, with me encouraging the students to play those they haven’t played before.

What I’d like to do, is to have the group elect officers, decide on dues (if any), decide on frequency and type of meetings, what to do at the meetings (like should we play with or without chess clocks), should we try to put together a chess team to go to tournaments, etc. I would take more of an advisory and guidance role, but try to let you make the decisions (I would help brainstorm possibilities, and raise potential issues, but allow you to decide, vetoing only when absolutely necessary).

This will make the chess club an opportunity for leadership training as well as mental skill training!
