We went over the "opening" (the first 8-10 moves in the game). The three points to remember are:
- Control the center (with pawns, supported by pieces)
- Develop pieces quickly (ie, bishops, knights, then rooks)
- Castle early (to protect the King and develop a rook)
Next meeting, we plan to cover scorekeeping, and (if we have time) mating with a King and Queen vs. a King, and the Queen and Rook Roller Mate.
We will also revisit etiquette (shaking hands after a game).
Pickup will be at the front doors next week.
